Specialty Contact Lenses
Specialty contact lenses are customized lenses designed for individuals with unique or complex vision needs that standard lenses cannot address. These lenses are often used for conditions such as keratoconus, severe dry eyes, or corneal irregularities. Types of lenses include custom soft lenses, scleral lenses, hybrid lenses and rigid gas permeable lenses. They are also used for myopia control and in cases of post-surgical vision correction or irregular astigmatism.

Myopia Control Program
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a condition where distant objects appear blurry because the eye grows too long, causing light to focus in front of the retina. Controlling myopia is important because unchecked progression can lead to high myopia, which increases the risk of serious eye problems like retinal detachment, glaucoma, and cataracts. Additionally, managing myopia in children helps maintain better vision long-term and reduces the need for stronger prescriptions. Early intervention with a myopia control program can slow its progression and safeguard eye health.
A myopia control program is designed to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness), particularly in children. It typically involves specialized treatments like:
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) uses special rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses worn overnight, also called orthokeratology (ortho-k). These lenses reshape the cornea temporarily, providing clear vision without glasses or contacts during the day. To keep the effects, they need to be worn every night and may help slow myopia in children under 18.
Atropine Eye Drops
Atropine slows myopia progression by limiting eye lengthening. Low-dose atropine is safe for children 5-18, helping manage myopia and lower the risk of serious eye issues. One drop is given in each eye at night. While there may be side effects, monitoring can reduce risks, making atropine a good choice for managing myopia.
Dry Eye Assessment and Treatment
Are your eyes watery, itchy, or feel like something is in them? You may have dry eye disease, affecting over 40 million people, often due to increased screen time. Various factors can cause dry eyes, and treatments vary for each individual.
At Princeton Optometry, our doctors conduct a detailed dry eye evaluation to identify the cause of your symptoms and develop a personalized treatment plan. Dry eyes occur when your eyes don't produce enough or the right type of tears, leading to discomfort and potential damage.
Treatment options include:
Artificial Tears: Over-the-counter eye drops for moisture and temporary relief.
Warm Compresses: A warm cloth can unclog oil glands and improve tear quality.
Eyelid Scrubs: Cleans eyelids to remove debris worsening symptoms.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Fish oil supplements may enhance tear quality by reducing inflammation.
Lifestyle Changes: Increasing humidity, taking screen breaks, and staying hydrated can alleviate symptoms.
If standard treatments fail, we may explore advanced options to improve tear production and quality.
Introducing Ocular Aesthetics by Oculus: A Cutting-Edge Solution for Comprehensive Eye Relief
Our advanced Oculus machine offers an innovative way to treat dry eye and inflammation, while also improving eye health. It provides relief through two main treatments:
Light Pulse Intensity (LPI):
Purpose: Reduces inflammation from dry eyes.
Description: This drug-free, light-based treatment targets the causes of surface eye diseases and conditions like blepharitis. It can also help with inflammation related to ocular rosacea and telangiectasia.
Radiofrequency Intensity (RF):
Purpose: Fixes meibomian gland dysfunction.
Description: This treatment uses radiofrequency energy to unclog oils in the eyelids, leading to better oil production and a more stable tear film. It also encourages collagen growth to improve the look of baggy eyes and reduce wrinkles, providing a smoother, more youthful appearance.
